FORCED LANDING IN PADDOCK
AIRCRAFT’S ENGINE FAILS (P.A.P ■ BLENHEIM, February 20. A forced landing in a paddock 200 yards long In the Rai valley, Marlborough, was made to-day by a Tiger Moth, piloted by Mr K. N. le Compte, of Nelson. The aircraft was not damaged.
Mr le Compte, who had as passenger Mr K. Sharland, of Nelson, was returning from Rongotai. He made the landing after the engine did not respond when lie wanted to increase altitude from 3500 feet to 5000 feet to clear the hills between the‘Rai valley and Nelson. Soon after flying over Havelock the engine began to fail and the aircraft, instead of gaining height, began to lose it. A decision on whether to fly the aircraft out or carry it by road will be made to-morrow by the pilot-instruc-tor of the Nelson Aei;o Club, Mr J Smith.
