U.S. MINERS STILL ON STRIKE

Mr. Lewis’s Order Rejected NEW YORK, Feb. 19. The United Mine Workers in the soft coal area to-day rejected an order by their president (Mr John L. Lewis) that 370,000 strikers should return to the pits to-mor-row. Reports from the coalfields area said that the miners’ stand, “no contract, no work,” stiffened after reports that contract negotiations between Mr Lewis and mine operators adjourned from yesterday till Monday. Mr Lewis’s order, which was made on Friday, was his second back-to-worlc order within a week.

The strike began nearly six weeks ago.
