BOROUGH RATES

SMALL SUM UNPAID Well under two per cent, of the Ashburton Borough ratepayers had not met their obligations when the late payment penalty came into force at the close of business on Monday, according to figures completed by the Town Clerk (Mr R. C. Major) last evening. Of the total rates 98.5 per cent, had been received by Monday evening, leaving only about £-100 outstanding. Compared with the sending out of further notices last evening, it is expected that a large proportion of the sum still owing will be received by the end of the week.
