WARM TEMPERATURES

Temperatures were warm in Ashburton to-day. Although the sky was overcast at intervals, the sun shone for considerable periods. Recordings taken at 9 o’clock this morning, and having reference to the previous 24hour period were: Maximum temperature 57.4 degrees, minimum 46.8 degrees, earth 58.1 degrees, 'barometer 29.91 inches. Only 36 minutes of sunshine were recorded yesterday.

The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: General situation: An anti-cyclone is moving onto northern New Zealand from the Tasman Sea. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru to 5 p.m. to-inorrow is as follows: —

Light to moderate variable winds, north-easterlies predominating near the coast; weather fine, with cool night and mild day temperatures. Further outlook: Fair.
