CHRISTIAN YOUTH COUNCIL
CHOIR TO VISIT DU ADDIN At a special meeting held last evening in the Baring Square Hall, members of the Christian Youth Choir present decided to adopt the proposal of the committee to visit Dunedin for King’s Birthday week-end. Almost 50 members have indicated their'willingness to make the trip, and it is anticipated that that number will be considerably increased when the choir resumes practices. The principal event will be the choral festival on the Saturday evening. The Mayor of Dunedin, Sir Donald Cameron will chair the programme and will also give the choir an official welcome to Dunedin.
An application has been made for a broadcast during the week-end, and it was agreed to assist in an evening service, also giving an hour’s sacred music following the service. Offers.were accepted from several Dunedin people to assist in publicity and in the billeting of members. An endeavour will be made to have the trip filmed with the view of screening of same during the interval at the next Ashburton festival. The choir will travel by buses to enable them to call at Waitaki High School and on return to call at the Happy Valley Sanatorium to present music to the patients. It was agreed that rehearsals begin early in March and that extra practices be arranged to ensure that a good standard is reached before the festival. Inquiries are to be made regarding a scenic trip around Dunedin and the harbour on the Monday morning.
