WOMEN’S DIVISION

PROVINCIAL EXECUTIVE Mrs M. C. Milne presided over a meeting of the Mid-Canterbury Provincial Executive of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers, held in the Community Centre recently. Delegates were advised that the Potninion conference and birthday celebrations would be held in Wellington in June. The report on the Pan-Pacific conference, submitted by Mrs V. C. Williams, official W.D. delegate, was read. Mrs Milne stressed the importance of international relations both in business and pleasure, and urged delegates to take this report back to their branches as an international talk, this being a most appropriate time for such discussion when so many nations are represented at the Empire Games at Auckland. The Executive organiser, Mrs W. J. Quantock, reported that a new branch had been formed at Mount Somei's. The housekeeper secretary, Mrs G. Moore, reported that 92 applications for housekeepers had been received, and that 68 of these applications had been supplied with the necessary assistance. Members were reminded of the garden party at Te Kiteroa, Waimate, which is to be held early in March, and also of a garden party to be held at “Stratheona,” Pleasant Point. It was announced that Mrs Hilda Ross would be the guest speaker at the inter-provincial conference which will be held in Ashburton on March 14. Mrs Ross will speak on “The Welfare of Women and Children.”
