HASTINGS HAS MORE HAIL
FRIMLEY ORCHARDS DAMAGED (P.A.) HASTINGS, Feb. 13. Another heavy hailstorm swept the Hastings district this morning accompanied by a succession of downpours, causing extensive surface flooding in town and countryside. The centre of this morning’s hailstorm apears to have been in the Frimley area on the northern outskirts of the borough, and was almost a continuation of the disastrous visitation on Saturday afternoon. Intermittent falls of hail, however, were recorded in most parts of the Hastings-Havelock North district, but the fall was not heavy and of little consequence. Apart from hail damage at Frimley this morning the downpour may yet prove a serious menace to the fruitgrowing industry. Orchards have now been soaked twice within 48 hours and the soil is almost saturated. With trees bearing almost peak crops, there is a danger they may be uprooted should winds follow to-day’s rainstorms. Hail was still falling this afternoon.
