TORNADOES IN U.S.

Towns In Three States Suffer NEW YORK, Feb. 12. At least 43 persons were killed and more than 100 injured when a series of- tornadoes roared through three states to-day. More than 15 towns in Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas were hit. The police report that many homes were destroyed, power-lines blown: down, and roads blocked by fallen trees. One man was sucked through a window'- of his home, but he escaped unhurt. A five-year-old boy sitting in front of a fire died when the fireplace crashed down on him. A later message says that the deathroll from the tornadoes in four States was mounting hourly, and the latest figure gives 47 dead. At least 200 persons were injured in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Tennessee. # In Ripley, Tennessee, eight members of one Negro family, were crushed to death in wreckage when a farmhouse was struck. Their bodies were scattered for 60 yards and the house was completely blown away. Rescue workers believe the family was sleeping and never knew what hit them.

Twenty-eight of the known dead are in Louisiana, nine in Texas, and others in Tennessee and Arkansas.
