F.F. WOMEN’S DIVISION At the February meeting of the Metliven branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers held recently the president, Mrs B. Cotterell, was in the chair. She announced that a successful shop day held in November had augmented the funds by £l7. Mrs M. C. Milne gave a preview of division activities for March, which include the garden party at Te Kiteroa, and the inter-provincial conference in Ashburton. A letter of thanks for an overseas food parcel was read, the writer mentioning that queueing for food and the points system still prevailed. There was no organised programme after afternoon tea, members enjoying an informal chat together. The hostesses were Mesdames A. G. Rawlinson and D. Dalton.
Competitions resulted: —Bloom, Mrs A. G. Rawlinson 1, Mrs G. Stewart 2, Mrs C. A. Holland 3; decorated howl, Mrs Holland and Mrs D. Dalton (equal) 1, Mrs J. R. Fleming 3, Mrs J. R. Dalton 4; truss, Mrs D. Dalton 1, Mrs Holland 2; spike, Mrs Rawlinson 1, Mrs D. Dalton 2, Mrs Holland 3; shrub, Mrs Holland 1.
WILLOWBY SCHOOL
MEETING OF COMMITTEE
The first meeting for 1950 of the Wiliowby School Committee was recently held in the school. The headmaster, Mr G,_W. Graham, reported that the school roll still stood at 24. Daily use was made of the school’s swimming baths and all children could now swim. It was decided that the Flemington School be granted the use of the baths. Final arrangements were made for the school flower show, to be held in the Wiliowby Hall on March 11. Proceeds from the show will be shared with the jubilee fund. Present were Messrs G. Chalmers (chairman), D. Shaw (secretary), T. O’Grady and G. Graham.
