REDS IN ASIA
PHILIPPINES ATTITUDE HONOLULU, Feb. 10. President Quirino declared that the Philippines was not interested .in stopping Communism in Asia. President Quirino was one of the early advocates of a Pacific alliance to stop Communism. He said in an interview: “Let China go Communist. Let Japan .go Communist. We don’t care. We will respect whatever form of Government any of our Far Eastern neighbours choose to have.”
Asked specifically if the Philippines in the interest of Pacific defence would join other Communist-threatened South-east nations to combat Communism, the President replied: “We are not anti-Communist. We are nonCommunist.”
Professor Quirinoi said that the Philippines had the recognition of the Communist regime in China and antiCommunist Bao Dai regime in Indo-Cliina under consideration.. “We are not going to be bothered by the complexion of any Government in the Orient. What we are interested in is our economic prosperity and our happiness. Given prosperity, the seed of Communism will not grow in the Philippines.”
