MOORE STREET CROSSING
Sir—There has been another accident at the Moore Street crossing; fortunately without serious results. I expect it was caused by the roughness of the crossing. It was decided at a special meeting of citizens to urge that this crossing be improved by making it wider, removing the trees, by zoning, and by lowering the rails, etc. I quite understand that the work has been Jield up by shortage of labour and perhaps permission by the Railway Department, but I am sure that the newly-formed A.A.A. could do something in the matter and voluntary labour could be found to assist. J. T. Pratley.
On being asked to comment on this letter the Mayor (Mr E. C. Bathurst) said, “When the citizens agree to the scheme of closing some crossings and improving others, as put forward some months ago, the town may look forward to safer crossings and the consequent minimising of accidents.”
