DESIRE OF GOVERNMENT. INCIDENCE MUST BE CHANGED. STATEMENT BY MR SAVAGE. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. INI. J. Savage) said to-day that the Government intended to deal with the question of taxation without delay. It was anxious to see taxation that is equitable, he said, adding that the incidence would have to be changed to make it equitable. The report of the special committee on the subject was almost ready. Mr Savage said that the preparation of the Budget was well forward, though Mr Nash would have to examine it to see what taxation would he necessary.
