FULL-TIME WORK.

THE POSITION AT HAWERA. OFFER BY THE GOVERNMENT. (Per Press Association.) HAWERA, This Day. The Acting-Minister of Labour (the Hon. P. C. Webb) conferred with local bodies here, and offered, on behalf of the Government, to provide £2700 to employ 42 men on full-time work at £4 a week for four months. Though 167 unemployed are registered at Hawera, it was found that neither the Borough nor the County could avail itself of the Minister’s offer because there was no work suitable for unemployed. Mr Webb said it might be necessary to draft men to work in other districts. The men, whether married or single, could be sent to work at camps in the backblocks. If they refused to go they would run the risk of being put off sustenance.
