THE AMERICA’S CUP.

MESSAGE TO MR SOP WITH. SPORTING SPIRIT PRAISED. (United Press Association —Copyright.) (Received This Day, 10.5 a.m.) LONDUN, August 6. The Royal Yacht Squadron sent to Mr T. 0. M. Sopwith the following telegram: “We are all very sympathetic with you at the disappointing results, but admire the sporting way you fought your uphill battle.” —British Official Wireless. TIMES FOR THE FINAL RACE. DEFENDER’S SUPERIORITY PLAIN NEW YORK, August 6. The final race for the America’s Cup was won by the Ranger by 3min 37 seconds, the elapsed time for the race being 3 hours 7 minutes 49 seconds. The Ranger eclipsed the Endeavour I.»s record for the triangular course by 72 seconds. The Endeavour 11. equalled the Ranger’s time on the third leg of the course in 52 minutes 48 seconds, and negotiated the second leg in 30 seconds less than the Ranger. The .crews of both yachts cheered each other at the conclusion of to-day’s race. - v ' . Experts are of opiilion that the defender’s superiority is plain. The fact that she is the higher pointing boat, coupled with the bad luck and bad handling of the Endeavour 11., accounted for the Ranger’s clean sweep. Mr Sopwith said: “Endeavour did as well as she ever has. America simply has the better boat.” Mr Sopwith did not indicate whether he would issue another challenge for the cup. He will race Endeavour 11. on August 16, against Ranger, Endeavour 1., Rainbow and Yankee.
