STATE HOUSES.

SUB-LETTING DISCONTINUED. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 5. Sub-letting by tenants of Government houses is to be discouraged according to a statement made by the Under-Secretary for Housing (Mr J. A. Lee) to-day. Mr Lee said that the intention was to let each house so as to provide for the maximum occupation of the rooms by the renter’s family. Referring to the likelihood of ,an unemployed man being able to secure one of the State houses, Mr Lee said: “One cannot be dogmatic about things like that. A man may be on sustenance but the income of the family as a whole may be £7 a week. Who gets the houses will be determined on the combined basis of the need of the family for the house and its capacity'as a whole to pay rent.”
