RUGBY FOOTBALL.

ALL BLACK TRAINEE TO PLAY. MORRISON AGAINST ASHBURTON. T. C. Morrison, who has been selected as one of 20 players to go into training for the first test against the Springboks at Wellington on August 14, has received instructions to leave Timaru on Monday. .He will play for South Canterbury against Ashburton in the representative game at Timaru on Saturday. It was originally thought that Morrison would have to leave Timaru on Saturday, and, as a result of injuries, the South Canterbury selectors were hard put to it to find a three-quarter line for the Ashburton match tomorrow. D. Hopkinson has a poisoned hand, which will prevent him from play, and last Saturday H. Mallett was injured in the Beri Cup game, E. Ryan being the only winger available. Now, however, Morrson will play on the opposite wing from Ryan, and his inclusion will strengthen the side considerably. In addition to the players already selected for the match, the following emergencies will be required:—Backs, R. Jamieson, R. Lundy and K. McPhail; forwards, J'. Stewart and G. Kain. PRIMARY SCHOOLS’ MATCHES. THE REPRESENTATIVE TEAMS. The Ashburton County Schools’ Sports Association field senior and junior trial matches between town and country at the Ashburton Domain yesterday afternoon, to select teams for the representative Rugby fixtures against South Canterbury, at Ashburton, next Thursday. Both games resulted in a draw, the score being six all in the senior match, and there was no score in the junior. The referees were Messrs D. L. E. McDougall (senior) and R. A. Young (junior). The following representative teams were chosen by the selectors, Messrs E. S. Chambers and rl. H. Hawkins (seniors), and the Rev. Dr. G. Harrison and Mr A. J. Rawstorn (juniors): Seniors—Forwards : Withell, Dwyer, Small, Tonks, Wild, Murdoch, Atkinson, Hill, Pearce, Tuttjf. Backs: Slaven, Burgess, Cornwall, Marr, Aitken, Reid, Lockhart, Prentice, Nordstrom. Juniors Rollinson, Horsburgh, Swaney, L. Grant, Sparrow, Fox, Wimsett, W. Tonks, W. Bryan, D. Oliver,

Pheloung, Roulston, Body, Clarke (2), Sheehan, Smith, MacLachlan, Aldridge. The teams will assemble at the top ground in the Domain at 10.30 a.m. on Saturday.
