SPORTS ATTRACTIONS.
FIXTURES FOR TO-MORROW. REPRESENTATIVE GAMES BEGIN. The season for representative sports matches will begin in Ashburton tomorrow. In Rugby, hockey and basketball representative games will be played, some of them being away from Ashburton. Some attractive games should be •seen on the Domain Oval, when the first match will be between Old Boys and Technical Old Boys in a continuation of the senior knock-out competition. Tins game will be followed by the third-grade representative match between Ashburton and South Canterbury. Supporters will accompany the senior representative team in its match at Timaru to play South Canterbury. This is looked on as one of the hardest games of the season, and some good football should be seen. The teams will be: Ashburton. Full-back: I. Behrnes (Rakaia). Three-quarters: S. Duncan (Old Boys), R. Lilley (Methven), J. Lilley (Methven), Five-eighths: D. Watson (Methven), W. Burgess (Old Boys), Half-back: H. McNeill (Methven), Forwards: P. Doig (Rakaia), E. McKenzie (Methven, capt.), D. Wilsou (Old Boys), J. Cretney (Methven), N. Hawke (Technical Old Boys), B. Newton (Old Boys), G. Kelly (Methven), D. Brooker (Methven). Emergencies— Backs: D. The Ashburton Association Football Club will play a match against Thistle Christchurch) on the top ground in the Domain. Representative Basketball. The Ashburton Basketball Association will play its first representative matches of the season, when Canterbury teams will play at Ashburton. Two good teams are being sent down, and should give a good exhibition of the game, although the Ashburton teams will do their best to break the long succession of Canterbury victories over them. Junior competition games will also be played. Women’s Hockey Matches. The Ashburton Ladies’ Hockey Association will send its senior representative team to play South Canterbury, at Timaru. In addition a senior trial game will be played at Ashburton, together with junior competition games. The competitions of the Ashburton Men’s Hockey Sub-Association have been concluded, and to-morrow trial matches will be played with a view to selecting representative teams. The ‘matches will be Wakanui v. The Rest (senior), and Baring Square v. The Rest (junior). i Cycling Road Race. A 20-mile handicap. road race round the Grove Farm block will be conducted by the Tinwald Cycling Club. , Badminton Match. The Allenton and Teniuka Badminton Clubs will play a match at Ashburton in the evening. Golf Matches. The Ashburton Golf Club will play a ‘Stableford bogey match. The Rakaia Golf Club will play a medal and rincer match.
