QUEEN’S JEWELS

THE DUCHESS OF WINDSOR. NEVER HAD" ANY IN POSSESSION. DUKE HURT BY RUMOURS. (United Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 1 p.m.) LONDON, August 5. The Duchess of Windsor never had any, of Queen Alexandra’s jewels, states a correspondent of the London “Star, ’ for whose reliability . the “ Star vouches. An article quotes Helena Normanton (a senior practising woman barrister of the English Bar), who visited the Duchess before the wedding, a» saying, with the fullest approval of the then Mrs Warfield, “the Duke of Windsor never at any time inherited any jewellery from any member of the Royal family. Mrs Warfield has never been in possession of any jewellery ever owned by Queen Alexandra.” The article deals with rumours emanating from the French press that the Duchess lent a ready ear to Nazi propaganda, which apparently originated in the unfounded rumour that she was a member of Herr von Ribbentrop s circle, regarding which Mrs Warfield told Mrs Normanton that she was only in Herr von Ribbentrop’s company twice at receptions ana never alone. She never had more than a few words of small talk. “I took no interest in politics,” said Mrs Warfield. The article says that the Duke of Windsor so far has made no answer to his traducers, but his friends know how deeply he has been wounded by slanderous tongues. It hurt and dismayed him to find how widespread had been the circulation of most fantastic rumours about the Duchess and him self.
