CASE OF EMERGENCY.
DOMINION PREPARATION. ORGANISATION IN EXISTENCE. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 4. The existence of an organisation for national security, established by the Government to deal with any national crisis or emergency that may arise, was announced by the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J." Savage) to-day. The organisation, which represents a comprehensive range of interests, is equivalent in principle to the Committee of Imperial Defence at Home, Mr Savage said. The organisation, in addition to coordinating all branches of defence, was concerned with coping with situations that might arise through an epidemic or an earthquake, or similar unforeseen events requiring instant emergency measures.
If it 1 did come to a declaration of war, said Mr Savage, everyone would have some idea of what would happen to New Zealand’s export trade.- ■* It would mean the reorganishtTbn of the country’s internal economy, and the machine must be ready for action to accomplish this. “Apart from any considerations of war,” said Mr Savage, “we have our economic life to maintain. The object of this organisation is to be in a position to deal with any form of crisis. We don’t want to have to run round and get an organisation together when we are in 'the middle of a .crisis.” **v j
