ENTERTAINMENTS.

ST JAMES THEATRE. A far cry from Charles Boyer’s awkward, brooding Trappist Monk of “The Garden of Allah” is the debonair Paris man-about-town and glorified head waiter the dark-eyed star portrays opposite Jean Arthur in “History is Made at Night,” the bright romance which shows at the St. James Theatre tonight and at two sessions to-morrow. Leo Carrillo, Colin Clive and Ivan Lebedeff play important’supporting roles. This second Walter Wanger production for release through United Artists is the work of the prolific team of Gene Townes and Graham Baker. The story, which opens in Paris, casts Jean Arthur as a former New York mannequin involved in an unhappy marriage with a jealous, domineering shipping magnate. Boyer plays knight errant in dress clothes and a delightful romance ensures between the head waiter and the lady. An accidental murder complicates the story. There will be good supports. MAJESTIC THEATRE. “More Than a Secretary,” the amusing film in which Jean Arthur and George Brent are the principal actors, will be shown finally this evening at the Majestic Theatre. The supporting programme is bright and varied, with an excellent coloured cartoon. They’ve talked about the weather and they’ve sung about the weather, but for the first time they’ve made a movie about the weather. It’s called “Let’s Get Married,” showing at the Majestic Theatre opening to-morrow. More precisely, it’s a story about the weatherman, an official Government weather forecaster, played by Ralph Bellamy. Like a Penny from Heaven, his new invention, a balloon-tyle “meteorograph” falls on the pretty red head of Ida Lupino while she’s attending a. garden party in honour of her impending engagement to Congressman-candidate Reginald Denny. Slightly irritated at thus being publicty assaulted, Miss Lupino is not quite cordial when Bellamy calls for his invention. Love, however, has a. way of overcoming such petty obstacles, and romance runs riot—and riotously, too. Also to he shown will be “Dodge City Trail,” &. Western story.
