FOURTEEN AND A-HALF HOURS. “A HUMAN TORPEDO.” (United Press Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 10.55 a.m.) LONDON, August 4. A Nottingham man, Tom Blower, aged 23, whom the pilot describes as a “human torpedo, and the fastest Channel swimmer I have piloted,’’ opened the Channel swimming season. He started from Gris Nez at 4 a.m. and landed at Dover at 6.26 p.m. Conditions were favourable. The record from Gris Nez to Dover is llhrs smin, put up by Georges Michel, a Fi’enchman, on September 10, 1926.
