(From Our Own Correspondents.) SEAFIELD. THE WOMEN’S DIVISION. The Seafield branch of the. Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union held its annual concert and dance in the Seafield School recently to- celebrate its sixth birthday. Greetings were extended to the branch by Mesdames C. Bcgg (Ashburton) and F. Johnson (Mid-Canterbury executive), and Mr R. J. Martin (Farmers’ Union). The aggregate prizes for the year were presented by Mrs 11. Driscoll (president) and. Mrs Johnson as follow: —General: Mrs J. Gregory 1, Mrs J. McDonald and Mrs F. Johnson (equal) 2; juniors, Miss N; Dennison 1, Mrs G. F. Brown 2, Mrs F. Taylor and Miss J. Mitchell (equal) 3. Flowers: Mrs A. P. Bruce 1, MissN. Bennison 2, Mrs W. Lambie and Miss J. Bruce (equal) 3. A special prize, given by Mrs Baynes, was won by Mrs R. J. Martin. During the dance that followed a Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr and Mrs Carter, and a lucky spot one-step by Mr and Mrs Brown. Mr W. Johnson was master of ceremonies. FAIRTON. PRESENTATION TO ARCHDEACON A pleasant afternoon was held in the hall recently when the residents of Fairton gathered to bid their vicar, Archdeacon Petrie, Mrs Petrie and Miss Petrie farewell. There was a good attendance, arid Mr J. T. Oram (vestryman for the district) presided. Mr Oram referred to the sterling qualities of Archdeacon Petrie, and what his removal from the district would mean to the people of Fairton. The president of the Ladies’ Guild (Mrs W. P. Anderson) made a presentation of a handsome leather kitbag to Archdeacon Petrie. Mrs Petrie was the recipient of a shoulder spray from Mrs Anderson. 'Miss B. Baird, on behalf of past and present members of the Bible Class, presented Archdeacon Petrie with a book. She also handed to Miss Petrie a ctip, saucer and plate, thanking her for the interest in the class. Messrs H. Chappell and J. Bennison ' also spoke. Pianoforte solos were played by Miss Molly Chappell, and Misses Oram and Anderson (contributed a duet. Afternoon tea. was handed round under the auspices of the Ladies’ Guild. Mrs H. Chappell was pianiste. MAYFIELD. THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. The annual meeting of Die congregation of the Mayfield Presbyterian Church was held in the church. The Rev. J. S. Freeman presided. The treasurer (Mr D. R. Howden) presented the balance-sheet, and satisfaction was expressed with the present sound position. It was decided to paint the interior of the church, and the tender of Mr Day was accepted. The following committee was elected: Messrs D. R. Howden (treasurer), J. W. Kingan, W. M. Turner '(secretary), L. C. Mcllroy, P. McDowell, R. McLay, J. McCormick, J. Cormack, A. A. Fleming, H. C. Barton, H. Galletly, J. Blair, G. J. Murdoch, and Mesdames J. R. Fleming, D. Edmond and W. M. Turner. Mr Freeman commented on the fine, cordial relations which existed between the various church workers. Missionary Union. The monthly meeting of the Mayfield branch of the Presbyterian Women’-s Missionary Union was held in the church vestry. Mrs W. T. Elmslie presided. It was decided to give £1 to the Maori Mission, deficit fund. A letter was received from Sister Kearney (Wairoa) thanking the branch for a gift of warm clothing for the Maoris. A missionary letter was also received from Sister Aileen, of Waimona. It was decided to support the effort for a memorial in the Methven Church to the late Mrs R. Morgan. The subject for the afternoon was “China,” and papers on the subject were given by Mesdames W. S. Greenslade, W. T. Elmslie and D'. Edmond.
