METHODIST CHURCH.
THE BIBLE CLASS MOVEMENT. VISIT MADE TO TIMARU. About 30 representatives of the Baring Square Methodist Young Men’s and Young Women’s Bible Classes visited Timaru over the week-end, when hospitality was extended by members of the Timaru class. A District members week-end was held under the control of the South Canterbury Methodist Young Men’s and Young Women’s Unions and representatives were present from churches between Rakaia and Oamaru. The annual meetings of the two unions were held on Saturday evening. The Young Men’s meeting was presided over by Rev. A. Mcßean (Ashburton) and at this meeting it was decided that the headquarters of the union should be transferred to Timaru after having been in Ashburton for the past four years. Mr AY. C. Bishop (the retiring president) made a gift of a beautiful Bible to the union for the use of presidents, the Bible to be . handed down each time a new president is elected. A combined thanksgiving service was held in the Banks Street Methodist Church on Sunday afternoon and was attended by about 250 young people. Mr Bishop presided at this service and was assisted by Miss D. Sides (president of Young Women’s Union) and Miss A. Firth (Travelling Secretary of the New Zaaland Young. Women’s Movement) who gave an inspiring address. Offerings for the work of the Bible Class Movements were presented by representatives of the various classes. A solo was given by Miss AV. Stater (Oamaru), and a quartet by Messrs AV. C. Bishop, N. J. Hosking, K. G. Fowke and K. Macfarlane (Ashburton).
