LEATHER HUNTING
NEW ZEALANDERS AT SWANSEA. GLAMORGAN SCORES 340 RUNS. VIVIAN HAS A DEADLY SPELL. (From the special correspondent of the United Press Association with the team). (Received This Day, 9.25 a.m.) LONDON, August 2. New Zealand spent a fatiguing day chasing the leather in brilliant sunshine at Swansea. The outfield was fast and the wicket hard. New Zealand, with seven wickets down for 116 runs, resumed batting <n the first innings. They lost the lajst three wickets in two overs for 10 runs, being beaten by steady bowling, supported by brilliant catching. New Zealand was all out for 127. Dryson and Davies, the opening pair for Glamorgan, established a fine partnership whjch yielded 157 runs. Smart later hit brilliantly, his score including ten fours and three sixes. New Zealand’s weakened attack stood the testing creditably. Vivian, practically inexhaustible, bowled almost continuously from one end, despite an injured bowling hand. He had one deadly spell just after breaking the first wicket partnership, taking three wickets for four runs in four overs. Lamason and Moloney were steady for long periods. Carson was effective with, a second new ball. The casualty list is growing, as Kerr retired with a poisoned heel. Tindill fielded a fine catch. Enthusiastic Welshmen from all parts of the Principality thronged to St. Helen’s ground, where Swansea beat the All Blacks. The attendance was 12,000, easily eclipsing that at the Test at Manchester. New Zealand batted a little over an hour and began a difficult task determinedly, but three wickets fell in quick succession to the slow left-hander, Davies. Scores NEW ZEALAND. First Innings.
