NEW AIRCRAFT.

A NOVEL TYPE TESTED. (United Press Association —Copy right. 1 NEW YORK, July 31. A successful demonstration of the “vertaplane” was held at Philadelphia before Government air experts. The aircraft flew conventionally, but was also able to convert one wing in midair into a rotator, enabling the machine to land like an autogyro. It is claimed that the machine combines the advantages of both types. It weighs 1700 pounds. At present the “vertaplane” does not carry a pay-load, and this remains one of the greatest; problems in its development.
