UNAWARE OF FRENCH AMNESTY
(United Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 1 p.m.) PARIS, August 1.
“You were pardoned years ago when an amnesty was proclaimed,” was the police reply to Louis Delcourt, of Beaumont Sien-et-Oise, who i had hidden himself 21 years ago in the house of his mother, who kept his presence a secret.
Delcourt fought in the trenches for two years during the Great War, returning several times after being wounded. Eventually overstaying his leave, he feared to surrender himself. His mother having recently died, he gave himself up as a deserter.
