FRUIT AND PRODUCE. THE ASHBURTON MARKET. Most (prices on the Ashburton fruit and produce market are unchanged from last week. Wheat is easier in price. Onions have been firming lately, and this tendency is maintained this week. Walnuts are also dearer in price. IMces are: Wheat—lss to 16s a sack. Bacon—ls to Is 2d a lb. Honey—9d and lOd a lb. Onions—lsd and 2d lb. Walnuts—Bd and 9d lb. Dessert Apples—ss 6d to 6s 6d a case. Delicious 6s to 7s a case. Cabbages—4d and sd. Potatoes—3s 6d to 3s 9d a sugar-bag. Cooking Apples—3s 6d to 4s 6d a case. Marrows—ss andl 6s a dozen. Cauliflowers—Bs to 10s a dozen. Carrots—2s 6d a sugar-bag. Parsnips—3s a sugar-bag. Swedes—2s a sugar-bag. Pickling Onions—2d and 2Jd a lb. Red Heather—2s 6d to 3s per dozen bundles. Chaff—2s 9d to 3s a sack. NATIONAL HORSE FAIR. SOME GOOD PRICES OBTAINED. Some fairly good prices were obtained at the horse fair conducted in the Arcade yesterday by the Ashburton branch of the National Mortgage and Agency Company, Limited. The following sales were made:— Geldings—Three years, £3O 10s; four years, £43; five years, £42, £27; six years, £33; eight, years, £l3, £3O; nine years, £26; 10. years, £10; aged, £lO, Mares—Five years, £44 10s; six years, £35; eight years, £33, £7 10s; nine years, £33; 10 years, £23. GRAIN AND PRODUCE. DUNEDIN MARKETS. DUNEDIN, July 30. Conditions are unchanged in the milling wheat market, with few transactions going through. Millers, however, are still prepared to purchase any suitable lines arriving from the country, but it would seem that from now on there will not be much more milling wheat to offer. The fowl wheat market continued steady, with stocks getting into small compass. Good, hard-condi-tioned lines suitable for keeping axe woi-th 5s 6d a bushel, sacks extra, «x truck. Fowl wheat in soft condition sells at irregular prices according to quality. The quiet position which has obtained in the oat market for the last month continues. There is not a great demand for chaff and sales are difficult to effect. Supplies are arriving from suri-ounding districts and also from Canterbury, and the ruling quotation for prime quality is £5 15s a ton, sacks extra, ex truck Dunedin. Although quotations from the north indicate that the market for potatoes is unchanged, there is an undereux-rent of uncertainty as regards the future.
The demand locally is quiet, with whites worth round about £6 10s to £6 15s a ton, sacks included. WHEAT MARKET IN BRITAIN. LONDON, July 29. Wheat cargoes are firm and parcels steady. The spot trade is quiet. Futures are quoted:—London: July, 46s 9d per quarter; November, 46s 3d. Liverpool: July, 9s 5d per cental; October, 9s Ifd; December, 9s 2Jd; March, 8s lid, BRADFORD TOPS MARKET. LONDON, July 29. The Bradford tops market is very firm, with moderate bxisiness being done. Quotations are:—Merinos: 70’s, 40d; 64’s, 38d ; 60’s, Crossbi'eds : 58’s, 32d; 56’s, 29d; 50’s, 25*d; 46’s, 25d (nominal); 44’s, 25d (nominal). MEAT MARKET IN LONDON. The Bank of New Zealand has received the following advice from its London office as at the close of business this week:— Wethers: The market is short of sup-
