The Colonial Sugar Refining Company is spending £200,000 on rebuilding to increase the of its distillery at Pyrmont and on facilities for transport and storage of molasses. The Company is embarking on the production of absolute alcohol for use as automobile fuel, especially in times of national emergency. In making this announcement Dr. R. W. Harman (the Company’s chief chemist) said that all solvents necessary to the lacquer and explosive industries were capable of being made at reasonable cost in Australia from Australian material, and this would be a sterr necessity in time of war.
