ARRESTS IN GERMANY.
FORMER TRADES UNION LEADERS ALLEGED DEFIANCE OF NAZIS. _ ! ' United Prwss Association—-Copyright) (Received This Day, 9.§5 a.m.) BERLUN, July 30. The police arrested 40 in a drive against former Trade Union leaders for allegedly reviving union activities in defiance of the Nazi Labour Front. The principal arrest is that of Scharfschwert, former leader of the Locomotive Drivers’ Union, who secretly organised meetings in the guise of convivial gatherings. He also published a Roneo broad-sheet, and collected subscriptions, which is a grave crime. The most extensive underground activities are indicated by the fact- that the authorities have already made contact with 700 or 800 locomotive unionists.
