(From Our Own Correspondents.) CHERTSEY. THE SOCIAL CLUB. The Chertse* Social Club he\d its fortnightly card and dance social on Saturday evening. Competitions were won by Mrs John Doig, jun., and Miss Cain, and Mr Rob Doig and Mr Andrew Doig. Mr A. Doig was in charge of the games. Lease of Portion of Domain. Tenders were called for the lease of the north end of the Domain. Messrs Kerr and Brosnan secured the lease, and intend putting about 10 acres in potatoes. This will mean that the cycle and athletic track will be ploughed up and put out of action again. WAKANU!. . ODDFELLOWS’ LODGE. The fortnightlv meeting of the Wakanui Lodge, 1.0.0. F., was held in the Memorial Hall, when the N.G. (Bro. D. Wilson) presided. Sick pay was passed to one brother. It was decided to challenge the Hakatere Lodge to a card match next month. Supper was supplied by Bro. O. Crawford, after which the evening was spent .in cards: ANAMA. THE WOMEN’S DIVISION. The monthly meeting of the Anama branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held at the home of the president (Mrs S. Bennett). There was a good attendance. Final arrangements were made for the birthday'party, which is to be held on Friday night in Mr H. McKenzie’s granary. A lecture was given by the Rev. W. W. Avery on daffodils and their culture. This proved exceedingly interesting and instructive, and it appears that the local women will in future be bulb enthusiasts. A hearty vote of thanks was unanimously passed to Mr Avery for his valued assistance. The competitions resulted: —Carrots: Mrs S. Bennett 1, Mrs G. Candy 2, Miss N. Ivey 3. Bloom: Mrs W. J. Robertson 1, Miss L. Robertson 2, Mrs R. Hewson 3. The hostesses were Mesdames Hewson and Bennett. Another competition was arranged, and will be judged later. Four pages of a scrap book arranged by each member will be made into book form and given to the children’s ward at the Ashburton Hospital. : Fortnightly Euchre Party. There was a fair attendance at the fortnightly euchre evening. The games were controlled by Messrs A. Rushton and It. Brown. Prizes were awarded to Miss N. Ivey and Mrs A. Rushton, and Messrs D. Smith and E. Ivey.
