MATCH AGAINST TARANAKI. THE TEAMS FOR TO-MORROW. (Per Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, July 29. A strong Springbok side has been selected to play Taranaki on Saturday, and is almost identical with that which beat Auckland. The team is: Full-back—G. Brand. Three-quarters—D. O. Williams, J. Besteir, L. Babrow, F. C. Turner. Halves—T. A. Harris, D. Craven. Back Row—M. M. Louw. Second Row—W. 15. Bastard, L. Strachan, M. A. van der Berg, G. van Reenan. Front Row—P. Nel (captain), J. Lotz, H. Martin. The Taranaki team is: Full-back—A. Collins. Three-quarters—C. Wet-ton, J. L. Sullivan, A. Hunter. Five-eighths—E. Smith, C. Brown. Half—L. Arnold. Back Row—J. McLenaghan. Middle Row—C. O’Dowda, R, Clarke, J. Coull, A. Richards. Front Row—P. Murphy, G. Fowler, P. Pastier. Emergencies: A. Pepperelly C. Sangster, H. Benton. The Springboks trained on fairly firm turf at Rugby Park, a number of the players giving an impressive display of place-kicking. . / Nel said that on the tour so far they had been impressed with the quality of the New Zealand forwards, but the backs as a whole were not as good as had been expected. Weakness in the tackling of the backs had been noticed.

THE LENGTH OF SPELLS. EXPLANATION BY MANAGER. HAMILTON, July 29. The playing of 35-minute spells in the Springbok match against the Combined team at Hamilton has occasioned some discussion, and reference to the difference in New Zealand and South Africa was made at an official dinner in the evening. The manager of the Springboks (Mr P. Day) said that in South Africa they played 35-minute spells and 40 minutes in the tests. The gate receipts for the match were £1843 12s. The attendance was 15,053, and, in addition, 2500 school children. NEW ZEALAND TEAM FOR TEST. SELECTION OF TRAINEES TO-MORROW. WELLINGTON, This Day. The selection of players to undergo a week’s training at Otaki, and from whom the All Black team to meet the Springboks in thei first test match at Wellington on August 14 will be chosen, will be made in Wellington to-morrow night, according to a statement by Mr M. F. Nlicholls, one of the New Zealand selectors.
