PERSONAL.

The Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) was welcomed yesterday by a private gathering of members of the Parliamentary Labour Party. The Hon. P. Fraser presided. Mr Savage was later the guest of honour at a social function tendered by members of his party at Parliament Buildings. About 500 were present.

Mr E. J. Wood (president) and Mr S. M. Cassidy (secretary), as representatives of the Ashburton County Debating Union, will attend the annual competitions of the Christchurch Federated Debating and Public Speaking Classes and Societies during the week-end.
