MOTHERS’ UNION.
ACTIVITIES OF TINWALD. The vicar (the Rev. H. A. Childs) conducted the devotional service in St. Andrew’s Church for the monthly meeting of the Mothers’ Union (Tinwald branch). Subsequently Mrs C. Jennings presided over a large attendance in the guild room at the parish hall. Mrs A. J. Petrie (Ashburton) gave a very impressive address, entitled “Shadows,” being the influence cast over our lives by strong characters. At the conclusion she referred to her impending departure from Ashburton and of her regret of leaving the Mothers’ Union branches of this district.
Mrs Jennings, on behalf ,of members, thanked Mrs Petrie for her address, for her interest in the branch during the past, and wished her happiness at Akaroa. As a token of remembrance she presented Mrs Petrie with a crystal yase.
A presentation was made to Mrs Rayliss in appreciation of her faithful services as branch secretary for 16 years The gilt comprised two leatherbound and initialled volumes of H. V. Morton’s hooks and a leather shopping hag. It was decided to hold the annual social afternoon at the August meeting. Members were asked to bring gifts for St. Martin’s House of Help. The secretary (Mrs 11. A. Childfs) was asked to write to other branches inviting them to function. It was reported that Mrs J. Roffey would be programme organiser.
