ROYAL VISIT TO BELFAST COINCIDENT

SUSPECTED EXTREME REPUBLICAN ACTION (United Press Association —Copyright.) (Received This Day, 9.55 a.m.) LONDON, July 28. A number of outrages, including the destruction of a bridge and Custom houses, believed to be designed by extremist Republicans to hinder the flow of visitors from, the Irish Free State to Belfast on the occasion of the visit of the King and Queen, occurred along the whole length of the Irish border. While their Majesties were receiving a loyal address at the Belfast City Hall the air resounded with the shock of an explosion, causing considerable excitement. It was revealed that the explosion occurred in a warehouse a quarter of a mile away, and is believed to be due to an escape of gas. machine-gun fired across the border from the Free State last night caused the northern police, in a Customs car, to retreat. It is estimated that over 20 Customs posts were destroyed. Police cars with wirenetting covers are patrolling the decorated streets of Belfast.
