STABBED IN CHEST.
REPORTED AFFRAY ON FARM. (.Per Press Association.) WANGANUI, July 28. Mr A. E. Da.vey, a well-known upriver settler, was‘found on his farm near Jerusalem this morning suffering from a wound in the chest, all the circumstances suggesting that he had been stabbed. The injured man lives inland from Jerusalem, and at/ this time of the year the homestead is not accessible by motor vehicle. Dr. W. J. Feltham, Raetihi, was called to attend Mr Bavey. He motored to below iPipiriki, and completed the last part of the journey on horseback. He found t'he patient suffering from a severe wound in the chest and in such a condition that it was dangerous to move him.
Detective-Sergeant Robertson and Detective Murray, of Wanganui, motored to Jerusalem and rode the final lap on horses. They took possession of a knife and interrogated those who knew of the happening, including Mr Davey’s housekeeper. Mr Davey’s condition late to-night was satisfactory.
