TRIPOD HOOK
USE OF SILVERY TACKLE.
PROHIBITED BY SOCIETY. /The local fishing regulations of the Ashburton Acclimatisation Society are to be amended to prohibit the use of tripod hooks on silvery tackle, according to a resolution passed by the council of the society following a recommendation made at the annual meeting of the society. The chairman of the council (Mr A. J. Millichamp) presided.
It was also decided to advise the neighbouring societies of the amendment.
In reply to the society’s suggestion that the use of tripod hooks on silvery tackle be prohibited, the South Canterbury Society advised that owing to diversity of opinion among its members, it would take no action in the matter.
The report of the ranger (Mr D. McDougall) said that there were at present 480,000 brown trout ova in the hatchery and the ova were in excellent condition. A total of 60,000 brown trout ova from Opihi fish had been received from the South Canterbury. Society and the fry would be liberated in Lake Clearwater. The South Canterbury Society was also giving 25,000 rainbow trout ova, and the fry would be liberated in Lake Camp.
