The importance of continuing as one of the functions of the League of Nations, the international protection of refugees, was urged by a deputation which was received by Viscount Cranborne, who is rapporteur on refugees to the Council of the League oi Nations.

The deputation, which was led by the Archbishop of Canterbury, drew attention to tlse grave anxiety felt by large sections of the British public opinion owing to the proposal to close the Nansen international office for refugees at the end of 1938. Viscount Cranborne promised that his Majesty’s Government would give sympathetic consideration to the deputation’s representations.
