TRADE WITH PANAMA.
GOOD PROSPECTS FOR INCREASE.
(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 27
There are good prospects of increased New Zealand trade with the Panama Republic. This is disclosed in a cable message received to-day by the ActingPrime Minister (the Hon. P. Fraser) from the Minister of Finance (the Hon. W. Nash), who, after visiting Ottawa and Washington, took passage in the Mataroa at Panama for Wellington. Mr Nash reports that “our butter has a splendid reputation and is in excellent demand, and the Panama market may later take more meat, fruit and other foodstuffs.”
During a brief visit to Balboa, Panama City, Christobel and Colon, Mr Nash discussed trade relations with the President of the Panama Republic, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Trade and Commerce, and merchants who handle New Zealand produce. Mr Nash also had two conferences with the Governor of the Canal Zone and buying officials, and discussed the promotion of New Zealand trade. They also investigated > the possibilities of extending the purchases of butter, meat, apples and other products. The Minister, whose time at Panama was limited and fully occupied, says the visit should result in increased trads. Detailed reports will be available later.
