LATE COMMERCIAL
TINWALD STOCK MARKET. INCREASE IN WETHER YARDING. PRICES FOR EWES MAINTAINED. There was a larger yarding of fat sheep at the stock sale in the Tinwald yards to-day. The wether section in particular had increased in size and almost as many wethers as ewes were yarded. There was a scarcity of hoggets. Quality of all sheep was about the average, including some unfinished lines. Owing to the large number of wethers available prices for these showed a slight decline when compared with those obtained at the sale in the Ashburton yards last week. Prices for ewes were better maintained, and lor the best quality were on a par with those ruling previously. The best price for ewes up to noon was obtained for five, sold for the Lucas Estate (Pendarves) at 32s lQd. Five for the same vendor brought 30s Id, a similar price being obtained for seven from the Estate of E. B. Horsey (Alford Forest). Five from Bice’s Estate (Eiffelton) brought 30s lOd. The best sheep below this brought from 21s 4xl to 29s lOd, and lighter lines made from 17s Id. The wether section was topped by three sold for G. B. Murdoch (Mayfield) at 35s lOd. Five for A. Bennett (Riverside) sold for 35s 7d. Other prices ranged, from 20s 6d to 35s Id. There was a fairly good yarding of cattle, the best price being for a fat cow sold for James Lowery (Westerfield) at £lO 17s 6d. Sales made up to .noon were:— Fat Ewes —On account of estate of E. B. DOMINION PRODUCE. HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. The Department of Agrieulture/lias received the following . cablegram, dated July 24, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— Tallow—Poor demand at auction; 807 casks offered, of which 71 were sold. Present spot quotations are : —Mutton: Fine, 28s 6d to 295; fair to good, 24s 6d to 265; dark to dull, 22s 6d to 23s 6d. Beef: Sweet amd/or mixed, 27s 6d to 28s, fair to good 24s to 255, dark to dull 22s 6d to 23s 6d; mixed, fair to good 24s to 255, dark to Anil 22s to 23s 6d; gut, etc., 21s to 235. Hemp—Manila: Market quiet. “K” grade for July-September shipments and August-October shipments quoted sellers £32. Sisal: Market quiet and easier. September - November shipments quoted sellers £27 15s. New Zealand: Market very quiet; small sales reported. “Fair” £27 10s. “Common” £26; “Rejected” £24 10s. Apples.—Slightly better tone in the market. Prices are -. Grannie Smith 12s to 14s j Dougherty, 11s to 13s; Tasma 9s to 10s 6d; Sturmer, Delicious, Statesman, Newtown Pippin, Ballarat, Yates, Pioneer Rome Beauty and Brighton 9s to 10s.
