TRAMP SHIPPING.
CO-OPERATION IN BRITAIN. SUBSIDY UNDER CONSIDERATION (United Press Association —Copyright.) LONDON, July 24. British owners of tramp ships have reached a decision to continue on a voluntary basis the measures of cooperation which originated as a condition of the Government subsidy in 1935. The scheme of co-operation provides for the observance of minimum freight rates and conditions, standard forms of charter, and National Maritime Board shipment and tonnage regulations. The subsidy scheme is still in operation, but because of the improvement in the demand for tonnage and the higher freight rates, it is quite likely that the sum of £2,000,000 which has been set aside for the present year will not need to be used.
