FATAL SHOCK FROM BURNS. (Per Press Assoeiation.) TIMARU, This Day. Asa result of shock, following burns she suffered when her clothing took fire on Saturday evening, Miss Eilen O’Brien, aged 76, died in Timaru Hospital yesterday morning. Miss O’Brien, who lived with her brother, Mr Timothy O’Brien, at 33 Latter Street, had been out early on Saturday evening and when she returned home about 7.30 complained of feeding cold. She lit a fire in the grate in her room and stood with her back to it. Her clothing ignited and she rushed out into the passage, summoning her brother, who succeeded in extinguishing the flames FALL HAS FATAL RESULTS.
HOKITIKA, This Day. Mr James Murtha, junior, a single man, aged assistant brewer, of Kumara, died in the Westland Hospital • yesterday morning as the result of a fall into a water-race, his head striking a log. Mr Murtha walked a mile to his home, but collapsed following removal to the hospital. An operation was performed, hut the patient passed away.
