FINE CONDITIONS CONTINUE. The fine weather experienced in Ashburton in the last few days continued to-ciay, wheai there was brigat sunshine and a moderate temperature. There was a light southerly wind. A short but fairly violent southerly storm was experienced last night. Seven points of rain fell between 7 and 9 o’clock, after which conditions cleared and frost set in, 7.6 degrees being recorded at the Domain weather station this morning. The maximum temperature yesterday was 49.2 degrees, and the inside minimum last mgnt 37 degrees. 'ilie barometer at 9 o'clock this morning had risen to 29.67 inches from 29.44 inenes yesterday morning. TO-DAY’S FORECAST. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: — General inference: The intense anticyclone which has been moving across Australia during the last few days is extending over the Tasman Sea, especially the northern portion. At the same time the depression to the eastward is passing away. Pressure has therefore risen considerably over the Dominion. A series of slight secondary depressions continues, however, to cross the South Island. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oomaru is as follows: Winds rather variable, with moderate to strong southerly to southwesterly predominating. Weather cold and changeable, with occasional showers and possibly hail in places, snow on mountains, ' and some sharp frosts inland. Seas moderate to rather rough, with southerly swell.
