LAWN TENNIS.
METHVEN CLUB
The tennis season was opened on Thursday afternoon, when a large attendance of members and friends was present at the function. The president (Mr W. Morgan), in opening, the courts, referred feelingly to the loss the club had sustained by the death of Rifleman Percy Evans, who was killed in action in France in September. Rifleman Evans was a very popular and keen member of the j club. Mr Morgan congratulated the ] club on the choice of captain and vice- i captain, both of whom were keen j sports. He said ho was sure tne club ! was in a fair way to beat all records, i Dr. McKee (captain) and Mr j. ] Dart (vice-captain) suitably responded, both referring to the great support the club had always received from Mr and Mrs Morgan. In conuclusion, three cheers were given for the president and Mrs Morgan. A match between sides chosen by the captain and vice-captain was won by the former's.side, the losing; gentlemen players each paying a shilling to the Patriotic Fund.. . : Afternoon ten, was provided by Mrs Morgan.
