High officials deny that America has taken, or intends taking, any immediate stops in the direction of mediation lin tho wax. They declare that tho many rumours to that effect are without foundation. Mr Lloyd George's intecviews showed clearly that such a'st^p 1 would bo unwelcome. In ' tho meantime developments are- being watched iafi an indication as to when peace proposals would bo wolcomed. ' I There is some interest in the announcement that Mr Henry Ford has summoned the secretary of the Stock-, holm Conference to visit America, and also -in tho notification that Count Bernstorff will pay a special visit to President Wilson on Monday.
