Tho Hinda branch otvtl»! Red -'Cross Society held its usual meeting mi Wednesday afternoon., when Mrs I). Shaw presided over a good attendance of members. Correspondence was received from the Hinds Hall Committee, offering the hall free of charge. A vote of thanks to tho. Hall Committee was carried. A letter was received from Mrs W. K. Watson', secretary, of the Ashlmrton branch, asking for financial help for the "Our Day" elFort on behalf of the British Rod Cross Society. It-was decided: to o^.tirngs the distinct for' subscriptions for this object. A large amonnt of seiring' was sent to the depot at Ashburton. , • ' Thcv children of Hinds '.Presbyterian Sunday ScJiool have decided to devote their prize-money to the l^ctl. Cross Society. A concert- was held on Thursday evening in the hall. Mr Aitken, actingrHomo Missionary, was in the chair. ' A good programme- was submitted, the following r'akinsi part: — MisseN M. Shaw, M. and K. Rogers, K. Moore. Messrs Gardner, Walker, Sutherian'i, and Murray. Several selections'on the gramophone was. given' by Mr McDonald. At the conclusion of tho concert Mr McDowell sold by auction a cake given by Mrs_ R. Moore; it was resold several time*, and realised £2 19s. The sale of .flowers, lollies, and rhubarb brought in £2 Is. Altogether, the. Red Cross Society will benefit by over £Ui. The Hinds ladies, with their' usual hospitality, provided an excellent .supper.
