Referring to a local -appearing in Uust night's "Guardian," in which it was stated that men who faded .to report for attestation when called upon would come under the compulsory section of the Act, it has been explained that this does not necessarily follow; but those men will be immediately struck off the voluntary register, and will in all probability come nnder the compulsory section immediately a ballot is taken.

O.here wore present: His -Worship the- Mayor (Mr R. Galbraith), Crs. H. A. Lloyd, G. W. Andrews, H. McElrea, R. Korr, P. L. Orr, J. U. Christian, and G. D. 11. Hefford, and the town clerk. Some time was spent on the*'inspection, which fully satisfied all present that there was nothing' in the drainage system to which exception could be taken.

On some .of the skulls, two inches above the perfectly-formed forehead, were protuberances of bone, evidently horns thnt had been there since birth.

The latest report of tho Discharged Soldiors' Information Department (dated September 27) provides splendid evidence of the valuable work that has been done. In all, 5515 cases have boon disposed 1 of in various ways, and there are 217 names on tho employment wanted register, including five at Wellington.
