A sergeant assumed command, and the party carried a trench and consolidated the position. During the same fight, an Auckland sergeant led a bombing . party to a German Bap, despite losses. • Most of tho party and himself were blown off their feet, but ultimately they won the trench. An Auckland private, seeing. \his comrades hard-pressed, took up reinforcementvS. Though Hie himself was wounded, he ran along the trench, deliberately bombing the Germans, thus I permitting the Canterbui'y , men to press home a counter-attack. .
