Tho monthly mooting of the Ashbiirton Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held yesterday. Present—Messrs Hugo Fricdkmdcr (chairman), C. .RoidJ C. J. Harper, J. Cairns, F. Watt, H. Davis, and W. J. Chairman's Report. Tho .chairman's monthly report rend as follows:— ''Since my last report, tho outbreak of scarlet fever appears to have been chocked, as only two cases have been reported—ope""within the 'Borough aiul ono from Marawiti. Isolated cake's of diphtheria continue,' and seven'cases' 1 have been 'dealt with, located ns under:—Bampstoad two, Lyndhursfc one, Baling one, Ashburton- Borough one, j Seafieid Road two. There were no; serious cases. One patient at the hos- j pital proved to vbo suffering from> phthisis. He had not long been' in this district, and has returned to his own hospital district for sanatorium treatment. This case has already had a' course of treatment at Pleasant Valley Sanatorium. At, the time of writing this report, no word has been received as to whether tho plans submitted for the fever ward have been approved hv the Public Health- Department.. The contractor has made pood progress with the new office building, and should complete the work within the contract time. A progress payment has been made:' The matron (Miss Davis), has returned from her short holiday. During her absence, the %ctjnc;-matron (Bliss Sawtell) . carried out her duties very satisfactorily. J found the institution as a whole well cared for. Correspondence between Dr. Chesson and myself will come iip for consideration. Dr. Chesson will attend a meeting of the board at. 2 ■o'clock this afternoon." —The report was adopted. .
