PROPOSED LOCAL RAILWAY.

WANGANUI, Sept. 27. A representative conference of delegates from local bodies was held to-day to discuss the building of a link railway botween Wanganui and Kaotihi under the provisions of the Local Railways Act. There were also present Messrs W. A. Veiteh, G. V. Pearco, and R. W. Smith, .M.P.'h. It was stated that tho proposed railway would serve a large area, of good country and shorten the present journoy betwoea WangaJiui and Obak.ane by 50 miles. 'it was decided to approve of tho formation of ,a railway district embracing portion's of four counties and roughly a^thousand square miles m extent"' and to urge the Government to have a. survey carried our. with the object of ascertaining the most practicable route.
