LOYAL SPEECHES
SYDNEY, September 27

The Empire, ho said, would not shoathe the sword till victory was achieved, freeing future generations from- the impending horrors of war and tho world from the burden and despotism of depraved militarism. " Australia stands by that cause to the end. It niay impoverish .the country and make greater demands upon our manhood, but not a man who takes tho privilege of Australian citizenship has the right to refuse Australia's call. It is not enough that this wikbdog. of Europe should be chained in his kennel ; we must prevent the madness of war and make it impossible for any Emperor or King to plunge tho people into the horrors of war without constitutional consent. No nation shall be permitted to go to war preliminary to arbitration.
The Assombly passed a motion expressing firm belief in the righteousness of the Allied cause, and decided to support the Government in whatever measures v,ero necessary to successfully conduct the war. Dtfrine the debate, Professor Angus n.nd others severely criticised the silence of certain neutrals. The. Rev. Gibson said that the Amen oan Eagle stood posed before the world as a. rooster on the dung-hill of its own self-interests. „
